The 18-year-old Archie Vaughan, son of former England captain Michael, has signed a contract with Somerset till the end of 2026. Rocky, the 16-year-old son of Andrew Flintoff, just scored a century for Lancashire second X.
Archie, the 18-year-old son of Michael Vaughan, has committed to a professional contract with Somerset that runs through the conclusion of the 2026 campaign. Archie, who plays as an off-spinner and top-order hitter, is the son of an England captain who won the 2005 Ashes and amassed 18 hundreds in 82 Test appearances.
The adolescent joined Taunton's development programme and played for the second XI for the first time in 2022. He played in the T20 Abu Dhabi Counties Super Cup this winter, helping Somerset defeat Yorkshire to finish third with 35 runs from 28 balls. Prior to his contract going into effect on November 1, Archie stated on Somerset's website.
"It's something that I've worked extremely hard for and it's something that I've strived for since I was a kid."It's an honour to have been given the chance to join a club where I've had a great time the past few years. "My goal is to acquire maximum experience and acquire knowledge from the more seasoned players.
"I want go do my bit in the second team whenever I get the opportunity and be a good team player." According to Andy Hurry, director of cricket at Somerset, "Archie is a young man with a bright future ahead of him."He has shown a sincere and strong willingness to work extremely hard and advance all aspects of his game since entering the programme.
"This hard work alongside his impressive on-field performances have led to second XI opportunities, in which he has flourished." For his whole county career, Michael Vaughan was a Yorkshire player.
Archie is one of several kids of former England captains finding success in the game. Josh de Caires, for example, is a Middlesex batsman and off-spinner whose father is Sky Sports pundit Michael Atherton. Corey and Rocky, the sons of Andrew Flintoff, have played for Lancashire's second XI. Rocky, who is sixteen, recently scored a century against Warwickshire.
